What is the fastest way to install floors over damp screeds?

When you’re working over a damp screed, traditional moisture control systems can stop a project in its tracks. Waiting days for DPMs and adhesives to cure is frustrating, expensive, and completely at odds with the fast-paced demands of retail, hospitality, and refurbishment projects.

UZIN Plurafilm Hydro DPM Tape

Introducing UZIN Plurafilm Hydro, an innovative double-sided adhesive tape and damp-proof membrane (DPM) that reduces installation time from days to just hours. The tape effectively resists alkaline moisture up to 99.9% relative humidity (RH), providing robust protection against residual and rising moisture. It is free of hazardous substances, making it a safer option for both installers and occupants. The tape is suitable for installing carpets, sheet vinyl, LVT, and rubber. For vinyl installations, the flooring can be grooved and welded immediately, thereby increasing on-site efficiency. This eliminates the need for extended closures, costly downtime, and prolonged drying periods.

Save Time and Money

Flooring refurbishments can cause revenue loss, operational disruption, increased labour costs, coordination issues and supplier delays, leading to higher project costs and client dissatisfaction. Traditional epoxy DPMs and flooring adhesives typically require three to five days of preparation and drying time before the floor is ready to use. As UZIN Plurafilm Hydro is ready for foot traffic immediately, there is no need to wait the usual 24–48 hours for the adhesive to cure, allowing businesses to reopen much faster.

Fast, durable and cost-effective

UZIN Plurafilm Hydro is a self-adhesive tape that acts as a damp-proof membrane up to 99.9% RH. It protects the floor covering from rising or residual moisture. Once installed, the new floor covering is immediately ready for use, minimising disruption for clients and allowing business operations to reopen immediately. Ideal for retail, hospitality, or flooring refurbishments which require a quick turnaround.

If the subfloor is even and free of residues or contaminants, UZIN Plurafilm Hydro tape can be installed directly onto the screed, and the floor covering can then be installed. If the subfloor is dusty, first prime it with UZIN PE 360 PLUS.  For uneven screeds, prime the subfloor with UZIN PE 360 PLUS, then pre-smooth with UZIN NC 161 moisture-tolerant smoothing compound. The following day, install UZIN Plurafilm Hydro and the floor covering.

Time Comparison

On an even subfloor, the UZIN Plurafilm system allows floors to be installed in one day, while a traditional damp proof membrane (DPM) system typically requires three to four days. For uneven subfloors, the system usually takes two days compared to four to five days with a conventional epoxy damp-proof system. Learn more.
