Applications

Main application area:

A cementitious, fibre reinforced smoothing compound for the thickness ranges from 3 – 40 mm in interior locations. Suitable for surface smoothing and levelling work. For producing smooth surfaces with good absorbency for floor covering work as well as for the installation of tiling and natural stone.

Extended application field:

Can be used on raised acces flooring panels in conjunction with UZIN PE 630 primer, providing the panels are mechanically fixed with no movement and free from any contamination that would impair the adhesion of any UZIN products. For further information please contact UZIN Technical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Smoothing compounds are normally applied over cement, concrete and other types of screeds. However, when combined with a suitable primer UZIN NC 196 fibre-reinforced smoothing compound can be used over cement and concrete screeds as well as flooring-grade plywood, chipboard, secure timber floorboards and ceramic tiles. The substrate should always be clean, sound, stable, and properly prepared before application. UZIN NC 196 is ideal for a variety of renovations due to its versatility.

Yes it is possible with some smoothing compounds, such as UZIN NC 196 fibre-reinforced smoothing compound, over correctly installed and commissioned underfloor heating systems. The pipes should be covered with at least 10 mm of UZIN NC 196, which can be used up to 40 mm in depth. Its low-stress formulation and fibre reinforcement help create a stable, even surface that supports heat transfer and long-term floor-covering performance.

The fibre reinforcement in UZIN NC 196 smoothing compound effectively accommodates minor substrate movement, including wooden floorboards and flooring-grade plywood, significantly reducing the risk of cracks. However, no fibre-reinforced smoothing compound can repair an unstable, damaged, or actively deforming subfloor, so these underlying issues must be resolved first.

Before installing a new floor, make sure the wooden floorboards are dry, secure, stable, and free from excessive movement. Re-fix loose boards and replace damaged sections. Apply UZIN PE 630 filler and primer over the timber. UZIN NC 196 fibre-reinforced smoothing compound can then be used to create a smooth, stable base for the new floor covering.

Ensure the existing tiles are firmly bonded, clean, dry, and free from grease, contaminants, and dust. Repair or remove loose tiles, then apply UZIN PE 630 primer to fill in joints and support adhesion on the tiled surface. UZIN NC 196 fibre-reinforced smoothing compound can then be applied to provide a sound and solid base for the new flooring.

Begin by thoroughly assessing the concrete or screed for several key factors, including moisture levels, visible cracks, signs of contamination, and overall structural soundness. It’s important to perform moisture tests to ensure the substrate is dry. If you identify any cracks, weak spots or significant defects, promptly repair these areas to ensure the integrity of the surface. Once repairs are completed, apply UZIN PE 360 primer to the entire surface. Then apply a smoothing compound such as UZIN NC 196.  This is crucial for providing a reliable foundation for the final floor covering, ensuring longevity and performance.

A fibre-reinforced smoothing compound such as UZIN NC 196 creates a smooth, durable base for new flooring while helping reduce the risk of cracking caused by minor subfloor movement. It is especially useful over renovation substrates such as secure timber floorboards, flooring-grade plywood, chipboard, and ceramic tiles when used in combination with UZIN PE 630 primer. UZIN NC 196 can be applied from 3–40 mm and is suitable for use over underfloor heating systems.
