Uzin Utz UK Ltd creates new prospects for prisoners

At HMP Onley, near Uzin Utz UK Ltd in Rugby, prisoners can receive education and training through the company’s support.

The training scheme, one of the first of its kind in the prison estate, involves subfloor preparation as well as vinyl, LVT, carpet and prefinished wood installation. Uzin Utz provides the prison with materials and tools for the training free of charge. The main goal is to support rehabilitation and help individuals find employment after release.

Whilst the training came to a temporary halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this window of opportunity was also used to build a new training area, allowing the project to restart with new momentum in August 2022. Daniel Leeson, Uzin Marketing Manager said: “Uzin Utz UK Ltd are proud to support to the HMP Onley Flooring Workshop. The apprentices are committed to learning new skills which will help them gain employment after they leave HMP Onley.”
